UniPhi Battery USB Dongle - Blueprint Pack
Publicly online since 2010 · U.S. patent applications since 2012 · inventions offered since 2014. The work of Christopher Gabriel Brown, independently documented.
UniPhi makes wired things wireless. Bolt a thumb-sized adapter onto anything that has a cord — a keyboard, a monitor, a bench instrument, a CNC mill, a whole PC — and it joins your Wi-Fi. The device itself never changes and needs no drivers; the wire stays, the cord goes. Once a device is wireless, one console can drive a roomful from a single pointer — but that’s the bonus. Turning the wired thing wireless is the product.
The USB Dongle, untethered. Works when the target PC is sleeping, off, unplugged, or sitting in a bag.
In plain English
The plain USB Dongle is powered by the computer it is plugged into. That is elegant when the computer is on. But many real situations are not so neat: the PC is off, the USB port is power-managed oddly, or the dongle has to live in your bag.
The battery edition adds a rechargeable battery, a charger, and a small regulator, all on the same little board. Now the dongle runs on its own clock and is always ready — ready to wake the target, ready to be carried, ready to keep the grid alive when the building flickers.
In technical terms
Identical core to the standard USB Dongle (ESP32-S3 composite HID + CDC + Wi-Fi, USBLC6-2 ESD, 24AA02E48 ID memory) plus a single-cell LiPo subsystem so the dongle is functional independent of target-port VBUS.
- MCP73831 linear LiPo charger (programmable Ichg, end-of-charge detection, status LED).
- JST-PH battery connector for any standard 3.7 V LiPo cell.
- TPS63020 buck-boost regulator holds 3.3 V across the full LiPo discharge curve (2.5 V to 4.4 V input).
- Load-share path so the dongle operates while charging without stressing the cell.
- Firmware extensions: charge state, low-battery indication, and a “wake target on AC-loss” reflex over the grid.
What is included (deliverables)
- Everything in the standard USB Dongle Blueprint Pack.
- Battery subsystem schematic, BOM, and layout notes for the load-share path.
- Firmware extensions for power-state reporting.
Ease of use
Same one-step install on the target as the standard dongle — plug it in. Charge it over USB-C between uses. There is no separate power brick, no daughter board, no external battery pack.
Design target
Multi-hour operation per charge, workload dependent. Performance values are design targets, not guarantees.
