AutoPhi BGA Library — AUTOPHI_BGA900 (v1)
The 256-ball BGA covers the small-package board projects. The 1,536-ball BGA covers the largest. Between them sat a gap wide enough to drive a whole class of designs through — the ones that need far more escape surface than 256 balls allow but nothing like the mechanical footprint of a 95 mm package.
AUTOPHI_BGA900 is that middle. 30 × 30 balls on a 1.0 mm pitch in a 32 × 32 mm body: three and a half times the ball count of the 256 in a package still small enough to sit comfortably inside the board series' clearance envelope.

AUTOPHI_BGA900 (v1) fills the size class between the 256-ball and 1,536-ball releases of the canonical AutoPhi BGA library. The release is a coherent set of artifacts — footprint, working pinmap, single-unit symbol, and an eight-unit symbol for practical drawing use — that all reference the same canonical pin grid. It is the only entry in the library that ships with a reference board demonstrating the footprint escaping to a PCIe x16 edge.

Exactly 25.0% ground and 12.5% power — the 2:1 ground-to-power split read directly off the existing 256 and 1,536 releases rather than chosen freshly, so the 900 is consistent with the packages the board family already consumes.
Placement follows normal BGA practice rather than filling rows in order. High-speed differential pairs sit on the outer rings so they escape to the board edge without long buried vias and layer changes. Power and ground interleave on a checkerboard through the core, giving every power ball an adjacent return — which is what keeps loop inductance low. Differential pairs sit on horizontally adjacent balls so p/n stay length-matched, and a pair is never split across a row boundary. Every lane carries both directions; a transmit-only endpoint could never complete link training.
Mechanical Envelope
The AutoPhi board series mechanical-planning envelope for BGA interchange runs to 95 mm. At 32 mm × 32 mm the 900 sits well inside it — the same body size as the 576-ball entry, at a finer 1.0 mm pitch. The 256-ball companion is 20 mm × 20 mm; the 1,536-ball companion sits at the envelope's edge.
Why the Eight-Unit Symbol Exists
900 pins in a single symbol stands 570 mm tall. An A3 sheet is 297 mm. The single-unit
symbol is included because it is the canonical form the pinmap generates, but it cannot be
placed on a real drawing. AutoPhi_BGA900_units.kicad_sym splits the part into eight
units of at most 120 pins each, grouped by bank, so the part is actually usable in a schematic.
About the Reference Board
The reference board is a layout reference, not a working design. It exists to demonstrate escape routing and fanout from a 30 × 30 grid at 1.0 mm pitch, and it is useful for studying how the footprint behaves against a real connector.
Schematic and board are verified consistent with each other — 266 components, 377 nets, 1,380 pads, every pad agreeing on both pad name and net, so importing the netlist is a no-op and the project is safe to open and edit. That makes it a sound reference. It does not make it a product, and specifically:
VDD_COREreaches 112 balls but has no supply — no VRM is present.- 499 of 900 balls are unconnected. Of the 401 connected, 337 are power or ground, leaving 64 signal balls.
- No component values — 223 capacitors with no capacitance specified.
- Footprints carry no library identity, so no BOM or pick-and-place can be generated from it.
- Reference designators are positional, assigned by pad count and order.
- Board outline is 267.00 mm × 109.07 mm — full height, but a non-standard length.
Stated plainly here rather than left for a buyer to discover, because the project opens in KiCad and looks finished.
USPTO Patent Status
The BGA library underpins board projects covered by the AutoPhi patent portfolio — principally USPTO 18/370,908 (AutoPhi quantum-battery and propulsion IC) and the umbrella USPTO 19/540,453 (Integrated Technology Portfolio) — through the board projects that consume it. The library itself is engineering source-of-truth content rather than a separately-claimed invention; its patent value is its role as the canonical foundation for the board-project filings that depend on it.
Why It's a Fact
- Pinmap balls, footprint pads and symbol pins all number 900 — the three artifacts cannot drift, because each is generated from the one before it.
- The bank ratios match the 256 and 1,536 releases to within a tenth of a percent.
- The footprint, pinmap and symbol open in KiCad and are inspectable on disk.
- The reference board's schematic-to-board agreement is machine-checkable: export the netlist and compare it against the board; all 1,380 pads agree on pad name and net.
License Terms — What's Granted, What Isn't
The acquisition grants the buyer permission to make, build, and copy the deliverable. It does not transfer the underlying intellectual property:
- Granted with the acquisition: permission to use the canonical 900-ball BGA footprint, pinmap and KiCad symbols in the buyer's own board projects; permission to build boards consuming the library; permission to make copies for the buyer's engineering and team-distribution use; permission to use the reference board as a layout starting point.
- Not transferred with the acquisition: the AutoPhi quantum-battery / EM propulsion IC patents (USPTO 18/370,908 and 19/540,453) that the consuming board projects fall under, the inventor's broader BGA library work, trademarks, copyrights, or any rights to license or assign the IP onward. The intellectual property remains held by Christopher Gabriel Brown.
- The buyer's permission is to use the library, not to own the rights behind the library.
This framing applies uniformly across the inventor's portfolio. Buyers seeking IP assignment rather than make/build/copy permission should contact the inventor directly — that is a separate negotiation outside the standard storefront acquisition.
