UniPhi DC — Home Edition Installer ($199)

One install, every PC in your house cooperates. UniPhi DC Home Edition is the personal hyperscaler that lives on your home Wi-Fi. Drop it on the spare desktop in the office. Drop it on the gaming PC in the basement. Drop it on the Mini-PC behind the TV. The machines find each other automatically and become one rack under one dashboard: shared CPU, shared storage, shared apps, moved transparently between machines as you reboot, unplug, or roam through the house. This Installer tier delivers the software you need to make that real, today, with no developer tools to install and no IP addresses to type.

The problem this solves

You probably own several computers that mostly sit idle. The gaming PC in the basement is dark twelve hours a day. The Mini-PC behind the TV runs at four percent CPU. The old desktop in the office is on, doing nothing, because you forgot to turn it off. Each machine is doing its own thing, and none of them know the others exist on the same Wi-Fi network. The result is a house full of expensive silicon that idles in parallel instead of cooperating.

Windows used to have HomeGroup. It is gone. Replacing it with anything modern requires either a commercial cluster product priced at enterprise tiers, or a weekend of Kubernetes configuration most homes will not undertake. UniPhi DC Home Edition is the third option: a residential-tier personal hyperscaler that turns those idle PCs into one cooperating rack, set up in minutes and run unattended forever after.

The solution this delivers

UniPhi DC publishes the rack hub on your LAN over mDNS, the same modern protocol Chromecast, Sonos, and Bonjour printers use to find each other. Every node you add finds the hub automatically. Authentication is a six-digit pairing code printed on the hub's dashboard; the hub mints it once, every new machine enters it once, the cluster auto-derives a 256-bit HMAC secret from that code and never asks again. The auto-retry dial loop with exponential backoff means a node that cannot reach the hub now will reach it after the network heals. Adapter watcher republishes the hub's mDNS record whenever its IP changes after a DHCP renewal or a Wi-Fi roam. Self-installing firewall registers the inbound rules on Windows on the first run via a single UAC prompt; never asked again.

The result is a system that solves itself when the household network behaves badly. AP isolation on a guest network. A wired-to-wireless subnet split. A DHCP renewal that shifts the hub's IP. A Windows update that reboots a machine at three a.m. None of these stops the cluster. UniPhi DC was designed by debugging exactly these failures on a real home Wi-Fi network and engineering around every one.

What you get at this tier

  • The signed-ready installer packageUniPhi-DC-Home-Edition-v0.2.0.zip, 37 MB. Contains uniphi-dc.exe (a single bundled binary with Python and all dependencies; nothing else to install), README, install-hub.bat, install-node.bat, tray.bat, doctor.bat, and uninstall.bat. SHA-256 included in the order email so you can verify integrity before running.
  • Self-installing Windows service registration via uniphi-dc install hub and uniphi-dc install node. UniPhi auto-starts at every boot and restarts on crash. No login required. Set-and-forget infrastructure.
  • System tray status icon (operates as a single-bit status indicator visible from the operating-system shell). Right-click for dashboard, pairing code, troubleshooter, and graceful stop.
  • Built-in dashboard at http://localhost:8080/ with four summary cards (nodes online, apps running, CPU cores, free RAM), live nodes table, live apps table, and a "Pair a new machine" button that opens the pairing code modal with the exact command to run on the next computer.
  • Built-in troubleshooter (uniphi-dc doctor) that runs the thirteen most common home-Wi-Fi diagnostics in five seconds and reports pass / warn / fail per check, with the cheapest fix per failure.
  • Permanent right to deploy on the machines your household owns. No machine count cap on this tier; no renewal; no telemetry phoned home.

Design target (not warranties)

Numbers below are measured on a Windows host with eighty logical cores and thirty-two gigabytes of RAM, using real TCP between separate hub and node processes over loopback. A typical residential Wi-Fi 6 link adds approximately three-tenths of a millisecond of round-trip latency; treat these as upper bounds on what your home delivers.

  • Deploy latency p50, one through eight nodes — approximately one hundred milliseconds end to end.
  • Deploy latency p99, eight-node rack — approximately one hundred twenty-three milliseconds.
  • Sustained throughput, single client — approximately ten application deploys per second.
  • Replication throughput, sixteen-megabyte file, N=3 replicas — approximately twenty-three megabytes per second user-visible store rate.
  • Reschedule recovery, eight-node rack, five apps moved after a node loss — approximately two hundred eighty-one milliseconds total algorithm time.

One hundred thirty automated tests pass on the codebase, covering the fabric transport, storage replication, mTLS handshake, advanced scheduler policies, persistent hub state with crash recovery, role-based access control, and the Prometheus metrics endpoint. Numbers are reproducible by anyone with the installed binary: uniphi-dc bench --scale 1,2,4,8 --apps 30 --output bench.md.

What a household uses this for

  • Family media library: deploy a media-server container once; it runs on whichever machine has the most free RAM right now. Reboot that machine and the library resurrects on the next-most-free machine within seconds.
  • Home backup pool: the storage coordinator chunks any file into one-megabyte content-addressed pieces and writes three replicas across the rack. Drop a drive and the cluster re-replicates automatically.
  • Home-Assistant-style automation: deploy the automation runtime on the rack; it survives any one machine going down.
  • Personal Jupyter / dev sandbox: deploy a notebook server; access it from any device at the same dashboard URL regardless of which physical machine is hosting it today.
  • The point is not what you run, it is that whatever you run keeps running.

What is NOT included

  • Commercial deployment. Home Edition is for single-household, non-commercial, residential use. For commercial, OEM, multi-tenant, multi-site, or service-provider deployments, see the flagship UniPhi Software listings.
  • Telephone support. Inquiries and post-sale support are email-only.
  • International sale. USA-only. United States Dollars only.
  • Hardware. The Installer tier ships software only. Use the PCs and Wi-Fi router you already own.
  • 30-day setup support window — included at the Complete tier and above, not this one.

System requirements

  • One always-on Windows 10 / Windows 11 PC to act as the hub. Any modern CPU. At least four gigabytes of RAM. At least twenty gigabytes of free disk.
  • One or more additional Windows 10 / Windows 11 PCs to act as nodes. Same baseline.
  • One residential Wi-Fi router (any modern WPA2 / WPA3, Wi-Fi 5 / 6 / 6E). Wired Ethernet works equally well.
  • No Python install. No Docker. No Kubernetes. The bundled binary is everything you need.
  • Administrator rights on the hub machine for the one-time firewall registration UAC prompt.
