See our <a href=\"https:\/\/cri-one.com\/store\/research\/downloads.php\">full safety disclaimer<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>The Monti 2019 Study<\/h2>\n<p>Of all 29 compounds in our Parkinson&#8217;s mechanism analysis (Project 12), N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) has the strongest published clinical evidence. The Monti et al. 2019 study (PMID: 31048906) enrolled 42 Parkinson&#8217;s patients and found that those receiving NAC alongside standard care showed improved dopamine transporter (DaT) binding on brain imaging and better clinical outcomes on the UPDRS scale.<\/p>\n<p>Our V3 Known Properties Report grades NAC at B+ for Parkinson&#8217;s \u2014 the highest grade in any of our four research packages. But that grade comes with important caveats.<\/p>\n<h2>The Limitations<\/h2>\n<p>The Monti study was open-label with no placebo group. 42 patients is a small sample. The patients receiving NAC also received IV infusions, which is not the same as oral supplementation. No large randomized controlled trial has confirmed these findings.<\/p>\n<p>We downgraded NAC from Grade A to B+ in our V3 report specifically because of these limitations. Being honest about evidence quality is more important than being optimistic.<\/p>\n<h2>Iron: A Cautionary Tale<\/h2>\n<p>Our analysis also flagged iron as mechanism-relevant for Parkinson&#8217;s. But the FAIR PARK-II trial (n=372) tested deferiprone for iron chelation in early Parkinson&#8217;s \u2014 and it failed. Patients in the treatment group did worse.
